month six
[happy half birthday]

Oscar Fox! We celebrated your half birthday at the beach [Isle of Palms] a couple of weeks ago. While we were at the beach you started sitting by yourself and you roll all over. You'll get up on all fours like you may crawl any day, but none of our babies have crawled normally, so we'll see.

You love to roar loudly at us. I imagine you'll talk just as much as the brothers do as soon as you have words. You love your brothers, and have the sweetest relationship with Ezra, even this early on. As soon as you can tag along (without me carrying you to where they are) I know you four will have the greatest adventures together.

You're still waking up around 3:15-3:30 to nurse ... just recently you've made it to 5:45 though! Whooohooo! You love food. Your favorites are bananas, avocados and smooshed french fries; you do not like sweet potatoes at all (not a single brother likes sweet potatoes). You love the excerscaucer at Honey's and the swings daddy put on the back porch.

You are the sweetest & happiest boy. You smile the biggest smile when you see mama (thank you). You look like me.

I'm looking forward to summering with you (and the brothers). We have plans for stamps in our passports and a(nother) road trip up the east coast (your first earthside). There's so much to see & do! Keep growing big and strong.

a letter to my Ezra

1-16

Dearest Ez,

At two you're such a big boy! You talk better than most kids your age and even some older. You are content and play well by yourself (at the beach last week you entertained yourself with a shovel and tennis ball for over an hour) but also with others. Daddy commented just tonight on how refreshing you are for your bothers (and us too). You come into their sometimes stormy attitudes and bring a joy and playfulness that always brightens their moods. And, you love Oscar so much. It is my joy as your mama to see you swoon over him. Your love for him is so pure and beautiful (how many times will he hear "I love him!" from you?). I never in my wildest dreams would've imagined you being such a sweet big brother! You are brave and crazy, always doing what the brothers do and believing without a shadow of a doubt that you can do it too. You're also bossy for a third born! You're strong and in very good command of your body, especially for a boy your age. You can dribble a ball and walk (or hold a conversation), kick a soccer ball the length of a field, bounce a tennis ball on a racquet & drop kick balls. You make us laugh daily with things that you say and "the look." You have humongous hands and feet that I'm sure will be bigger than mine in no time. You still want me to lay with you at nap time and most nights to go to sleep. Every night you kiss my face at least a hundred times (and I secretly tuck them away in my mind, each one of them) and I sing Happy Birthday.

Ez, you're such a joy. My prayer over you has been and still is that the joy of the Lord would be your strength and I see His faithfulness in that daily. You add so much light and laughter to our family. Little buddy, keep growing big and strong. You're a prince!

I've noticed you creeping in some days subtly, other days not so. Lying on my bed mid afternoon nursing Oscar the sun splashes through the trees on the black top and I can almost feel

the heat.

Tonight, half way through the month I sit in the pink chair with a six month old snuggled in close, whispering breaths against my neck. Time is a thief like that. There's cleaning and packing to be done, for a quick trip back to the coast. But then again, there's always something [else] to be done. So here I'll sit. Possibly until I fall asleep. I watch your sleep drunk eyes peek around every now and then and comfort you with forehead kisses. Every time I breath you in. Thankful.
