a weekend at the lake was just what our crew needed. saturday morning papa, ez and mikey were up early & made a pastry run - they came back with fritters and donuts bigger than our heads. we spent our days soaking up the sun on the new pontoon boat, picnic lunches packed, sunscreen slathered. the boys loved beaching the boat for a bit of rock throwing, jumping and swimming...

we're home now, working on the white house, trying to finish up a handful of things that have been needing to be finished before our "big" adventure this summer! we're hitting the road to explore New England + Canada ... stay tuned!

i know 4 boys who sure did enjoy the spa at dawson road the past few days! bubbles, jets, water so warm their skin turned lobster red ... PLUS daddy in the bath! what more could these boys want? we laughed a bubble covered faces and solly repeating "ho ho ho" and watched the bubbles seep over the side and spill onto the floor and cover just about every other surface within flinging distance (sorry OD & Cat ... let's just say, your bathroom got a good bubble scrub)

cheers to tubs big enough for all my boys and a quiet moment for mama while daddy took "spa duty"

one of my favorite things from our ny trip was meandering through the farmers market on saturday. everything screamed of summer - from the vibrant red tomatoes to the sweetest tasting strawberries, from the tart cranberry walnut pastry to the gingersnap that we all shared. i always love walking stall to stall, whether in new york or south carolina, taking in the sights and smells, welcoming summer in all her glory with arms wide open.

after our morning at the market we strolled over to the shake shack, a new york must, for a kickin' chicken sandwich + fries (us), burgers, fries & shakes (them).

sunday morning after donuts we hopped a train to check out the brooklyn flea. mike and i strolled, hand in hand, weaving in and out of booths. we perused vintage mlb jerseys, letter blocks, army soldiers and toy cars. mikey tried on glasses and i lingered on a couch that i just couldn't figure out how to get home. in the end, mikey came home with a genuine european field jacket from Front General Store and i came home with a vintage American flag for our wall. i have to confess that there's not much better in the world than an easy morning thumbing through other people's treasures with my boy.
