Our first stop on our trip to New England was DC. We thought it would be fun to see the Smithsonian National Zoo (huge bonus: it's free!) and to show the boys where Mr. President lives.

We checked into the cutest Airbnb after a 10ish hour drive (lots of stops with the tiny humans), dumped our bags and set out to snag dinner of Tex-Mex at Cactus Cantina (recommended by our Airbnb host's son). We spent the next morning at the zoo - exploring the reptile exhibit and the Amazonia exhibit ... then had to bee line out of the zoo carrying all 4 babies because we were in melt down mode. After standing on the sidewalk for about 20 minutes trying to decide if we should brave taking our tiny humans into one of the restaurants on my recommendation list or find something (anything) close by, we opted for 7Eleven hotdogs and Coke slushies. #reallife  We found our way to a playground that had a splash pad, but consequently it was closed due to water contamination (or something like that). We did end up with ice cream from the ice cream truck, so it wasn't a total bust.

After the playground we went back for a rest before dinner with our friends, the Sagans, who made the trip to see us from their new home in VA. You'll remember them from our Summer Travel Trip last year -- we stayed with them in Virginia Beach on our way home. We're so thankful that they made the trip with their boys. We grabbed Chipotle for dinner and had a picnic on the lawn under the Washington Monument (or "giant noodle" as Ez called it) and then be-bopped over to the White House for a photo op!
