Celebrate | Oscar is ONE!!!

Our sweet Oscar Fox turned ONE!! We celebrated with a fox cake, snacks, gifts & friends and family.

I cannot believe how quickly this pas year has gone. I'm pretty sure I just birthed this brown haired, blue eyed boy in our bathtub at home, but, I know that's not true. Time has a way of passing so slowly some days, yet disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Oscar, you're such a little stud. At one you are so much fun! You walk and babble, can keep up with the brothers (and prefer to be where they are), sleep like a champ, eat all the things and are generally just a happy boy. You're feisty - as the fourth brother has to be. You're strong and brave. We love you so, so, so much Oscar Fox! We're glad to call you ours!

month ten | oscar fox

1-5

Oscar Fox. I could eat you with a spoon. I have loved every minute of being your mama these past ten months. You're normally so easy and happy (not here because you'd just woken up and were not happy about being made to have your picture taken). You're seeming more and more like one of the boys and less and less like the baby. You can hold your own on the trampoline, get anywhere you please (still by crawling / almost by walking), have two more teeth coming in, and win the award for best sleeper in the Martin house. You're a great eater - favs include: pizza, CFA, yogurt, bananas and peanut butter. You pull my face in and give the sweetest sloppy open mouthed kisses. And, you love to play "Where's Oscar" with your sleepy fox! You are outrageously loud and hilarious. Oh, and you still look a whole lot like Mama.

Child, I love you. You've stretched us and grown us. You've made me a better mama, as each of you do. You're making daddy a better daddy and the brothers better brothers. I thank Jesus for you always and pray His strength over you. Grow big and strong little guy.

month nine | oscar fox

1-9

Nine whole months! I always feel like 9 months of pregnancy lasts forever and ever, but then nine months of a fresh new babe passes in the blink of an eye. You're the happiest guy around. You absolutely love those big brothers of yours and they're pretty smitten with you too.

In this last month you've consistently slept through the night all but one night I think. Thank you child. You say "ma" on repeat when you want more of something, but that's your only word. Not even a "mama" or "dada" consistently.  Sometimes you still like to perch on my hip to see what's going on, but mostly you like to crawl around to wherever the brothers are.

I love being your mama. You are a constant source of joy to our family. I'm looking forward to one more trip to the coast with you in tow this fall and of course starting to plan your first birthday party! Oscar, keep growing big and strong. We sure do love you littlest one!

month eight | oscar fox

Untitled

Welp, this past month has been a big one mister! You've had teeth break though (you have 4 total now), have learned to climb stairs (can make it to the top of our staircase in about 30 seconds), have traveled (road tripped up the East coast for a family vacation in Marblehead, MA), and started sleeping consistently through the night.

You are on the move constantly, not wanting to ever be left behind by the brothers. NONE of the brothers moved as efficiently as you at this age. I'm waiting for you to just take off and walk one of these days. You love splashing in the water bucket on the driveway with them and soak in any attention the give you. You're quick with your hands - grabbing anything and everything in sight and seem to be right handed. You're a great eater (despite what daddy says) and eat anything and everything we give you - favorites: peanut butter, banana, applesauce, green beans, hot dogs and "potato" fries.

Oski, you are a constant source of joy for our family. I never in my wildest dreams could've imagined three older brothers loving a baby the way they love you. Ezra bursts into exclamation every single time he sees you and still smothers you with kisses. My heart explodes at least once a day from watching you two interact and play. His love for you is so pure and so strong. Solomon has taken to watching after you - making sure to stand behind you as you climb the stairs or throwing things in the water bucket so you can see the splashes. Amos loves to hold you while standing up (this makes him feel so big) and is a great helper at getting mama all the things for you (diapers, wipes, pouches, more wipes, sleepy fox, etc).

Keep growing big and strong. I'm soaking in these next few months and praying time will slow down just a little. This summer with you has been one for the books! All my love, all the time littlest boy.

month three | oscar fox

1-29

1-30

1-32

Oscar, you sweet child, you. You are the calm in our chaos right now.

Things mama's loving about you right now:

how you play with my shirt when you nurse
your belly laugh when i tickle you
your widows peak ... just like mine
those puffy little lips
watching you watch your big brothers
snuggling you against my chest before i rock Ez for bed
listening to you talk

I love you to the moon and back, Oski. Keep growing big and strong for us...you've got quite the crew to keep up with!

a letter to Oscar Fox

1-10

1-11

1-12

I've held you now for two hours, uninterrupted. Watched light dance across your face, your eyes flicker every now and again. I study your lips, so much like your brothers and trace your ears, like Amos & Ezra's. I cradle your feet & wrap your tiny fingers around my thumb. I take in your hair line and dark eyebrows, wondering if you'll be a towhead like the others, or if you'll stay dark. I breath you in and pray that I'll remember for all eternity how your tiny body feels splayed across my lap, cradled in my arms.

month two | oscar fox

month two

1-14

Two whole months of Oscar Fox! Seriously, you are the happiest, easiest baby. You're content to just be around your people - always watching what's going on. You also don't seem to mind being kissed or patted multiple times an hour (mostly by Ez who absolutely adores you). I think you probably like the attention from your brothers and hope that's always the case.

You've got dark hair and dark blue eyes. Your dark hair is like Solomon's (was) and your eyes are standard Martin boy. There's something different about your looks though - everyone says you look like mama ... and Carson (who looked just like mama when he was a baby).

You're an amazing sleeper (knocking on wood as I type this) - sleeping about 6 hours before waking to nurse then sleeping again for another 5-6 hours. Ummm, I'm not sure you're our kid (kidding, kidding). You're currently still sleeping in our room, but Ez is anxiously waiting for you to move to your crib (that's yet to be set up) in his room.

You've already rolled over a handful of times - from tummy to back - I think because you do not prefer to be on your tummy (although you will sleep on your tummy just fine). You grunt and are super loud at night with all of your sweet noises...daddy & I laugh all the time at how loud you are. You're smiling and talking up a storm (I think all the time that I'm doomed if this is a sign of another kid who's going to talk non-stop...somebody send help! hah!)

Sweet, sweet Ah-ba-ger, you are so loved by so many. Your village is huge, little buddy. So many people love you and are praying for you. Keep growing big and strong like those crazy big brothers of yours!
